TronByt S3 Setup Overview

The TronByt system requires two main setup steps:

  1. Set Up the TronByt Server on Your Computer
     Begin by installing and running the TronByt server software on your PC. This server is responsible for generating and serving image frames that will be displayed on your TronByt device.
  2. Connect the TronByt S3 Display to Wi-Fi
    The TronByt S3 comes pre-flashed with latest WiFi Manager capable firmware. After the server is running, power on your TronByt S3 display and connect it to your Wi-Fi network by configuring it via the WiFi Manager portal. Once connected, the display will automatically begin fetching and displaying image data from the server.

Step 1: Set Up the TronByt Server (on your PC)

This server handles image generation and serving over HTTP to the S3 display.

  1. Download and install Docker Desktop from https://www.docker.com/   
              
 

         2. Clone the TronByt server repository https://github.com/tronbyt/server

                   git clone https://github.com/tronbyt/server

          3. Configure .env file 

  • Rename .env.example to .env
  • Edit the .env file to configure the first line – SERVER_HOSTNAME_OR_IP.  Make sure to replace this with the IP address of your PC on the LAN.            
 

              4.   Build and start the TronByt Server container

               

               5. If successful, you should see TronByt server container running on your Docker Desktop GUI : 

                

         6. Browse to http://localhost:8000 to setup your TronByt.  Use login credentials admin / password

               

  1. Setup a New TronByt. Select Tronbyt S3 as Device Type

  1. Click on Edit Device button to get the Image URL
                

Step 2: Connect TronByt S3 to Wi-Fi

After the server is running, power on your TronByt S3 display and connect it to your Wi-Fi network.

  1. Power on your new TronByt S3
    After the initial animation, you should see the display showing the following :
                
 
 
  1. Connect to TRONBYT-CONFIG WiFi SSID
                 
 
 
  1. Browse to http://10.10.0.1 Configure your WiFi credentials and Image URL (obtained from Step 9 of TronByt Server setup)
                 
 
 
  1. Save the configuration and check if TronByt S3 starts to display apps
                             
 
 
  1. You can also check Server logs to see what’s happening in the background
